Looking to the future
It is hard to predict where we will be in 10 years time, maybe we'll have tiny cameras installed in our brains and we'll all be making video 24 hours a day, who knows?
There are really so many emerging technologies: High Definition, 3D, Super Broadband; the possibilities tied to visual communications are only limited by our imagination.
How we decide to put a message out there will determine how our message will be perceived. I believe that quality storytelling, planning and truthful reporting combined with technical preparedness make for an enjoyable and thought provoking viewer experience.
what I'm working on now
The old adage-
out of sight out of mind- certainly holds true for trash, most people just forget about what they've thrown away once it's dumped.
Spring 2009 took me to San Francisco California to shoot a documentary on a subject of growing social importance: GARBAGE,
what we do with our trash is the theme of the documentary.
Francesco Barbieri isn't like most people, he didn't make the long trip out to Frisco to put a flower in his hair or visit the church of Jimmy Hendrix but rather to look at how trash is managed successfully.
San Francisco and other Bay Area cities have long since taken the "problem" of waste management and turned it into an industry of hope for a better future.
"Parma is Burning" is documentary about Francesco's quest to stop the building of a trash burning incinerator in Parma, Italy; his aim is to spread the gospel of zero waste and better living: More fun less stuff!
Together with sidekick Dr. Aju'ah Nkohkwo Francesco sets out to gather as much info on trash as possible, they come to San Francisco bearing gifts for Mayor Gavin Newsom hoping they can return to Parma with a letter of support from the charismatic politician. What will happen?
